The number of patents registered by its researchers makes the University of Seville the third in Spain in this field, as shown by the Spanish Office for Patents and Brands. With 400 items, the University of Seville is close to the second, Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña, which is only beaten by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. The fourth classified, Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, is far behind with less than 300 patents.
The 31 chairs created together with other public and private institutions come to show as well the will to encourage research and knowledge transfer. Furthermore, the University of Seville has 10 research institutes and signs every year more than 400 agreements with several institutions related with researching.
